Chiara Torre

Chiara Torre is Full Professor of Latin Language and Literature at the University of Milan (Department of Cultural and Environmental Heritage). Born and raised in Genoa, she graduated there in Latin Literature and has been affiliated with the University of Milan since 1995, thanks to a doctoral scholarship.  A passionate scholar of early imperial Latin literature, she focuses particularly on Seneca and Ovid, with forays into Late Antiquity and the history of play in the Roman world. Her research weaves together literary interpretation with visual culture, cultural history, and philosophical traditions. She teaches in the Cultural Heritage and Archaeology programs and has held several institutional roles, including positions in the Academic Senate, the Quality Assurance Board, and the presidency of the BA Ancient Civilizations for the Contemporary World, the first Cultural Heritage degree in Italy taught entirely in English. She currently serves as Vice-Rector for Teaching and Learning. She is also a member of the Class of Greek and Latin Studies at the Accademia Ambrosiana (Milan).
